With all the conversation going on in the world about climate change, global warming, and environment loss, it seems a little irresponsible to ignore the impact that fashion has on the environment. Did you know that on average, Americans throw away 80lbs of clothing PER PERSON, annually?? Or how about the fact that more than 50% of all fast fashion produced is disposed of in under a year? Or that 85% of your clothing donations end up in landfill? When I learned this, I was absolutely gutted.
Lately, I’ve been cutting back a lot on my buying (in general), but especially so when it comes to fast fashion. While I’ll definitely still make seasonal purchases, my goal is to cut back on frivolous buys and only add pieces that I know will stand the test of time. At least at this stage of my life and fashion journey, I’m leaning hard into higher quality items that don’t feel like they’ll fall apart after a couple wears.
This jacket, for instance, is from new-to-me workwear brand, Pari Passu, which means “on equal footing.” The brand prides itself on providing beautiful, high quality clothing for plus size women, and utilizes a proprietary fit system that takes into account multiple body types, not just your standard hourglass! In talking to the brand, I learned that they took over 7,500 3D body scans of women size 12 and up to identify the three most common body types. As someone who is definitely not an hourglass, I really appreciate that a brand took the time to consider both size AND shape.
I would say their research definitely paid off since I’ve never had a garment fit so well right off the rack. Jackets in my size are often too baggy through the arm or fit strangely through the bust, but this moto jacket fits like a glove! It has stunning construction details, and the quality feels like it’ll last for a long time. On top of that, all their clothing is designed and manufactured in the US. While all this means that their pieces have a higher price point than what you’d find at a fast fashion or high street stores, I think spending a bit more for luxury wardrobe staples is well worth the investment if you’re able.

I am never going to be able to spend $800 for a jacket. It is not sustainable for my budget.

Get out of here Cee and stop hating!!
This isn’t a post about “affordable fashion”. I am sure you can probably find a jacket that looks similar for $40 at Forever 21. However the quality of the jacket might not be that great and you will end up having to throw it away after a year while this $800 high quality jacket will last a lifetime.
