I can’t recall ever wanting to look like a cake, (though don’t quote me on that because after 8+ years of blogging, I’m probably quoted saying exactly that somewhere on the internet already), but if I had to look like a cake, I’d want to to be a faux leather, edgy cupcake. Actually, if that isn’t a decent interpretation of my general style (girly with a twist), I’m not sure what is. All I know is that when I saw this Nha Khanh faux leather, tiered AND pleated piece of art, I had to get it. It’s structural but kind of flowy, and a strange mix of edgy and classic. I’m sure it’s the Vegemite of skirts since you really either love it or hate it!
Since I probably won’t wear this Nha Khanh skirt for more than one season, I opted to rent it from Rent The Runway instead of buying it outright. For someone who cycles through clothing as much as I do (especially when I’m dressing for special occasions or events), renting is kind of amazing. I’ve had this sweater for ages now (last styled on the blog here) and I love breaking it out every fall. I don’t own much in this colorway, so it’s a piece I haven’t cycled out of my wardrobe just yet! The lace up shoulders are a such a fun detail, too.
In case you can’t tell, I’ve been obsessed with these boots lately! I will say that they aren’t the most “flattering” for my short legs, but I almost don’t care because it makes me almost 6′ tall when I wear these! Plus, I can wear them almost all day, and I like how the toughness offsets the poofiness of the Nha Khanh skirt! Pulling out my Chanel Gabrielle hobo, which is such an interesting bag…it has a super long strap drop, so I actually twisted the chain around itself to shorten it a bit. I need to play around with the styling options a bit more but I love it crossbody like this!

Oh my god, Allison, this skirt is everything! I just love it and such a twist on the leather skirt. I think renting clothes is such a cost-effective way to introduce new clothes in your wardrobe (and that goes double for if you are a fashion blogger).

Thank you so much! Renting is definitely cost effective–especially if you always want something new and maybe don’t have the budget and/or closet space for everything! haha
