Guys…TODAY marks the 10-year anniversary of Curvy Girl Chic! I wish I had paid attention to this upcoming milestone so I could share some cute, celebratory photos, or SOMETHING, but alas, I didn’t even realize it until I sat down at work today. A couple years ago, I unpublished the truly CRINGE-WORTHY content from the early days of this blog, but today, I went back into what are now drafts to look at what I had shared with you all. Were the outfits embarrassing? Yes. Was the writing crappy? Absolutely. (TBH, my writing is still terrible. :P) Do I ever regret starting this little old website a decade ago? NEVER.
My very first blog post explained why I started Curvy Girl Chic:
“What I want to accomplish with this blog is to create a place where plus size women can come for some style inspiration, and catalog my favorite outfits along the way. I’m not going to tell women to only dress in empire waist tops or splurge on some ridiculous piece that’s only going to be in style for 3 days. Nope–what I want to do is help women find key pieces for creating a wardrobe that will last a lifetime with just a few trendy pieces thrown in for good measure each season.”
Horrible syntax aside, not much has changed. The photo quality has improved, the writing is marginally better, and *hopefully* my personal style has gotten better, but at the end of the day, what I wanted and still want to do is give women like me a place to come hang out, get some outfit inspiration, shop the latest trends, and just feel like part of the fashion community that for so long, excluded bodies that look like ours. I hope I’ve been able to do that over the past decade, and if you’ve stuck with me through the ups and downs, you’re a real one.
So thank you, dear friend. If you made it this far down this ramble-y post, I reward you with the cringiest photo I could find on my blog, from my very first ever outfit post, published November 1, 2009. You’re welcome for the laugh/Sorry to your eyeballs.
